MobiliseYourCity Mastering Mobility training program: How to build a robust urban mobility observatory ?

Two more sessions from MobiliseYourCity Mastering Mobility training program will involve Transitec, based on the work done with partners on Indian Urban Mobility Observatories

Transitec in partnership with DVDH, CEPT Research and Development Foundation and Oslandia has developed a simple and visual online tool for three Indian cities – Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Koch –. Thanks to the support from Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) and in  the framework of MobiliseYourCity programme in India, the consortium has accompanied the three cities in the process of collecting, analysing, and monitoring all data needed to understand urban mobility within each city and evaluate the progress and results of the SUMP (or CMP – Comprehensive Mobility Plan) implementation. A set of 20 indicators has been defined and are presented through graphs and maps on an interactive website.

Through the two sessions, the MobiliseYourCity community will benefit from a presentation of this tool, that could be usefully replicated for other cities.

The first session will present the purpose of an urban mobility observatory, the general features of such a tool and the construction of its key indicators. Methods for collecting data and calculating indicators will be presented. You will have the opportunity to dive into data analysis from past, present and future urban mobility trends with the examples of these three Indian cities.

During the second section, we will discuss the resources needed to implement the application in another territory. Opportunities around the open-source development model will be presented. Finally, the session will focus on access to geospatial data in a growing open data movement. You will learn how to search for mobility data on Open data portals, notably OpenStreetMap, but not only. And as a bonus, you can view them using GIS software, open source of course.
