Reimagining urban transport in African cities: Transitec to Participate at the OECD COP28 Virtual Pavilion

Transitec has been invited by the OECD Sahel and West Africa Club to participate in a panel discussion on December 1st to discuss how to reimagine urban transport in African Cities. This online session will take place from 15:00 to 16:30 CET in the OECD COP28 Virtual Pavilion.

Transitec is honoured to have been invited by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), to participate in a virtual panel discussion on December 1st, from 15:00 to 16:30 CET, as part of the ongoing OECD COP28 Virtual Pavilion. This event result from the collaboration between the OECD Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC), the esteemed University of Ghana, Ghanaian researchers from the University of Manchester, and the OECD International Transport Forum. Those partnres have explored the crucial aspects of accessibility, gender inclusivity, and proximity of transport within the context of Accra and Kumasi. Drawing from key insights gleaned from nearly 7 years on the Ghana Urban Mobility and Accessibility Project (GUMAP), Transitec will specifically highlight some factors that challenge the coordination of land use and transport in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA).

Under GUMAP, Transitec has evaluated various aspects of the institutional and governance framework in GAMA, which support urban mobility, as well as traffic and parking management in the area. This event will therefore be a fine opportunity to share with the audience, perspectives that will enrich discussions on the broad topic, “Reimagining Urban Transport in African Cities.”

Transitec’s input will complement and contribute to OECD’s recent research in Ghana about accessiblity of population in Accra and Kumasi. The panel is envisioned to present a comprehensive discussion about the implications of findings from OECD’s work, as well as its broader relevance to achieving mitigation and adaptation goals in Ghana.
