Agadir Mobility committed to improving its bus network by 2022

Agadir is committed to improving its public transport services. A BRT will be operational by the end of 2022. Transitec is working with Agadir Mobility on a study to restructure the existing network to ensure, beyond the BRT corridor, the provision of an efficient and competitive service to the residents of Greater Agadir.

Agadir Mobility was created in 2018 to provide the residents of Greater Agadir with mobility solutions that can support its demographic growth and help improve its attractiveness.

Transitec contributed in 2016 to the structuring of this local development company [société de développement local (SDL)], through a technical assistance financed by the French Development Agency, which helped to define concrete guidelines for its organization and operation.

Today, the SDL of Agadir is developing mobility projects that are crucial to the Greater Agadir area. Currently, the city's flagship project is the implementation of the first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line, which should be operational by the end of 2022. Concurrently, Agadir Mobility has launched a study to restructure its bus network in order to anticipate demand, as much as possible, and redesign the service around the new network, which will allow for optimized and efficient operation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, planned as part of the 2016-2022 Urban Transportation Plan.

With its experience on the networks of Rabat and Casablanca, Transitec was mandated in June 2020 to accompany the SDL of Agadir in this restructuring study. Currently, the study is in the diagnosis phase, with a comprehensive survey program, that accounts for the summer period as well as the school period. At the end of the diagnosis, Transitec's experts will propose scenarios for the restructuring of the network in strict collaboration with the operator ALSA, as well as with the engineering firms working on the implementation of the BRT. The study is scheduled to end in the summer of 2021.
